This trail section is under development.

The envisioned Newbury section of the Border-to-Boston (B2B) trail is being developed in two segments. One segment will run along the former rail bed from the Georgetown line to Byfield Center. The second will run from Byfield Center to the MBTA station in Newburyport.

The Newbury portion of the B2B trail, which runs north from the Georgetown line to Byfield Center is part of a MassDOT project which is currently being designed. Construction funding for the B2B from Georgetown Center to Byfield Center is programmed for FFY2028.

During 2026 the Town of Newbury will be conducting a feasibility study for routing of the B2B segment between Byfield Center and the MBTA station in Newburyport where it will connect to the Clipper City Rail Trail.
