CTC TRAIL CLEANUPS – AMESBURY & SALISBURY

The leaves are falling and it’s time to get the Coastal Trails ready for winter.

Coastal Trails Coalition will be sponsoring a Fall Trail Cleanup Day on the on the Riverwalk in Amesbury and on Salisbury’s Ghost Trail and Old Eastern Marsh Trail on Saturday, November 19, from 9:00 am to noon.

In Amesbury we’ll meet at the Water Street end of the Riverwalk and in Salisbury we’ll meet at Lion’s Park. Jim Bailey of Amesbury and Jerry Klima of Salisbury will organize the work.

The activities will include walking the trails to pick up trash, brush clipping, leaf-blowing, clearing blow-downs in Amesbury and planting spring-flowering bulbs at two locations on Salisbury’s trails.

CTC will provide trash bags, gloves, water, and snacks as well as a few leaf blowers. Depending on what you would like to do, please bring a brush clipper, a garden spade and/or a leaf blower.

CTC EARTH DAY TRAIL CLEANUP – AMESBURY

Meet at Bartley Machine Parking Lot, 35 Water St, Amesbury, MA 01913. We’ll focus our efforts on the following tasks:

1. Walking the Riverwalk trail to pick up trash.
2. Walking the I-95 Trail Connector to pick up trash. 
3. Cutting bittersweet vines from the Riverwalk trail railings.
4. Clearing deadfalls near the Riverwalk trail Oak Street overpass.
5. Using a leaf blower to blow sand and gravel off the sidewalks on Elm Street between the Carriagetown Plaza Elm Street entrance and Route 110.

We will supply free gloves donated by the Institution for Savings and a backpack leaf blower. We will also provide trash bags, water, and snacks

Meet at the parking lot at Lion’s Park on Lion’s Way in Salisbury.

Both the Ghost Trail and the Marsh Trail are generally in good shape, so we’ll focus mostly on specific areas:

1. Walking the Ghost Trail to pick up trash and move deadfalls away from the trail.
2. Cleaning and improving Ghost Trail Flower Beds
3. Pruning brush along the Ghost Trail at Cushing Street
4. Clearing piled leaves and debris along the Ghost Trail near Scholtz Terrace where volunteers have cleared the swales for better drainage.
5. Picking up trash at the Friedenfels entrance to the Marsh Trail and the Gillis Bridge Connector
6. Walking the Marsh Trail to pick up trash and throw fallen branches off the sides of the trail to facilitate mowing.

We will supply free gloves donated by the Institution for Savings. We will also provide trash bags, water and snacks.

Please bring gardening tools and/or a leaf rake and/or pruners or lopping shears if you would like to help with those jobs.
