DESCRIPTION

This 0.6 mile, paved route allows you to travel across the Gillis Bridge between rail trails in Newburyport and Salisbury without crossing US Route 1. 

On the Salisbury side you can picnic in a waterfront pocket park and enjoy a gallery of original paintings of Salisbury scenes.

Sites and features along with way include:

  • Murals and sculpture by local artists
  • Picnic area
  • Merrimack River overlook
  • Restaurants

The trail is maintained by the Town of Salisbury and Coastal Trails Coalition volunteers.

CONNECTIONS

Gillis Bridge Connector to Eastern Marsh Trail: The Gillis Bridge Connector meets near the southern terminus of the Eastern Marsh trail.

 Gillis Bridge Connector to Clipper City Rail Trail: The Gillis Bridge Connector meets the Clipper City Rail Trail at the southern end of the bridge.

ACCESS

The Gillis Bridge Connector can be accessed from the southern or northern end of the Gillis Bridge.

PARKING

Friedenfels Street – (42.819235, -70.870962) Entrance to Eastern Marsh Trail in Salisbury, MA. North on US Route 1 from Newburyport, turn left just over the Merrimack River bridge on Friedenfels Street. Friedenfels Street is across Route 1 from Vasa Restaurant. Park to the right of the granite railroad bridge.
