A Massachusetts Department of Transportation 75% Design Public Information Meeting will be held for the Whittier Bridge/I-95 Project on:
Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 7 PM
Amesbury High School
5 Highland Street
Amesbury, MA 01913
The purpose of this meeting is to provide the public with the opportunity to comment on the 75% Design for the proposed Whittier Bridge/I-95 Improvement Project.
The proposed project involves as its centerpiece the replacement of the John Greenleaf Whittier Bridge over the Merrimack River. It also includes the replacement or reconstruction of four adjacent bridges along I-95 in Newburyport and Amesbury and widening I-95 between Exit 57 in Newburyport and Exit 60 in Salisbury. When completed, there will be four travel lanes, a shoulder adjacent to the high speed lane and a breakdown lane in each direction. The project also includes the Whittier Trail: the first shared-use path to be constructed along a Massachusetts interstate.
The design-build entity for the project is Walsh-McCourt JV1. Preliminary work is currently underway.
